April 9, 2009
In honor of Mother’s Day, MomsRising—the political arm of MotherWoman Inc—is teaming up with local performers and organizations to show their support for mothers. On Saturday May 9th, 2009 from 10:30-1pm on the Amherst Town Common, we will hold our first Mother’s Day Rally! Local musican Aric Bieganek and the Raging Grannies will perform for children and families; there will be giveaways, raffles, and children’s games. Local organizations will be on site to educate the public about how we can get involved in changing our communities and policies to better support families in the Pioneer Valley.
This event is in conjuction with the Amherst Famer’s Market and the Amherst Rotary Fair as well as our “Mothers are Worth a Million” campaign. Community members are invited to participate in the campaign by making a $10 donation to MotherWoman in honor of an exceptional woman in their lives. For every $10 donated, a flower bearing the name of the woman being honored will be hung in the window of local businesses in Amherst and beyond. Each donation of $10 comes with a business-card sized acknowledgement that the donor can send to the woman being honored. MotherWoman is encouraging the public to visit downtown Amherst to tour the beautiful chain of flowers in storefront windows and to patronize local businesses involved in this campaign.
Flowers can be purchased starting April 20th at the MotherWoman office, at select Amherst businesses, at a Mother’s Day Rally on May 9, and online at mothersareworthamillion.com. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Participating local businesses will be announced online at mothersareworthamillion.com.
