Poetry Open Mic and Mom's Night Out raise $6000 for MotherWoman, Cafe participants write the "100 woman poem"

MotherWoman is thrilled to announce that their 2 big fall events raised $6000 for the organization which will go directly to keeping our doors open-literally! The poetry Open mic held on November 16th at el Mercado Cafe in holyoke was amazing with 60 people in attendance and c10 local women who performed their powerful poetry. The place looked beautiful all decked out in red decorations and candles on the cafe tables. Dean Cycon of Deans Beans Organic Coffee and el Mercado owner Eduardo Suarez served as guest bartenders for the evening! Our guest poet Patricia Smith was completely amazing- performing her brilliant, powerful poetry! And Patricia has agreed to come back next year again for us!

Mom's Night Out at the MotherWoman Cafe was beautiful and luxurious with 100 women in attendance who talked, laughed, bid, drank, and ate through 3 hours of women-centered entertainment! The room was decorated with love by our volunteers with amazing pink decorations and balloons! The Silent auction was filled with sexy, practical and fun items! Highlights of the evening included: the 83 year old bidder on the dildo basket- you go girl! Chocolate cake and wine! MotherWoman getting a $1280 check from the producers of BIRTH! Liz Friedman showing off her due-date belly to the audience and then birthing her baby girl the next day! Patricia Smith's incredible performance of her poetry! And Patricia Smith leading 100 women in creating the 100 woman poem- a powerful poem created by every woman in the room that night! Patricia is typing up the poem and will send it to me as soon as it's ready and we'll post it up on the website!
