On January 26th, MotherWoman held a press conference on HB 3897 The Act Relative to Post-partum Depression introduced by Rep. Ellen Story, (D-Amherst). A Hearing was held at the State House for this legislation on January 27th with over 100 people in attendance. Twenty-five people from Western Massachusetts were there in support of this legislation. The legislation will make screening for postpartum depression universal, providing women with an essential opportunity to receive education and learn about resources to help them through a critical time in their mothering experience. The legislation will also provide for professional training of providers and a state-wide educational campaign for mothers. Over 50 people attended the MotherWoman Press Conference on January 26th and the story was covered on all 3 local TV news channels, the Advocate, The Hampshire Gazette and the Republican, as well as our local NPR station. Both the Boston Globe and the Springfield Republican have come out in favor of the legislation. Please see below for local news coverage. Click here for more information about the bill.
